Description:
The Dying of the Light depicts an all too familiar pathway through life for the vast majority of ordinary people. From the first poems of love and hope in youth to the final poem that follows a funeral cortege of a woman who was, for one last time, the ‘Centre of Attention’, the collection outlines five stages of life. The poems cover the Lighting of the Light to the Palling of the Light, through the Fading of the Light, the Flickering of the Embers to the Dying of the Light. The final section deals with disability, dementia and death. It is a collection of stark uncompromising realism occasionally tinged with flashes of linguistic humour.
