The Author

The Author holds:

B.A. (Joint Hons) English & History from Portsmouth,

Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Bath,

Master’s degree in Military Studies from the University of Liverpool,

Ph.D., Centre for First World War Studies, the University of Birmingham.

He taught for 17 years in three Hull comprehensive schools, 15 years as Head of English.

He worked for the JMB & AQA Examining Boards as a GCE examiner and the Yorkshire Examining Board as a moderator for Spoken English.

He is a qualified F.A. referee and holds an F.A. Coaching Badge.
He was founder & Chairman of Galina International Study Tours Ltd., from 1989-2019.

Dr Matthews is a member of the Society of Authors and of the Alliance of Independent Authors.

He is a member of the British Cartographic Society and a member of the Western Front Association.
